Sunday Jan 22, 2023

Today’s episode is all about the spiritual beings (the Elohim) we encounter in the Bible – angels, demons, and the Satan (the Adversary). Spiritual beings are somewhat of a mystery to us, but Scripture is very clear about some aspects of spiritual beings. In this episode, we will dive into their characteristics, abilities, and their position with their Creator. We will tie it all together at the end by discussing the commonalities between all created beings, spiritual or otherwise.

Corrections & Notes:
At 10:08, Liv attributes the authorship of Hebrews to the Apostle Paul – this is not known for certain, but many people do ascribe to the idea that Paul wrote it due to its similarity in themes and style to Paul’s New Testament epistles.
Allison says around 24:50 that two Cherubim were sent to guard the entrance to Eden, but we don’t know how many there were because the Bible does not say specifically. Genesis 3:24 says, “He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life” (ESV).
The text read by Liv about Michael the Archangel from 27:15 to 28:08 is a direct quotation from the Got Questions article referenced above. Our apologies for not citing this verbally as well as here in the show notes.

Merry Christmas! Welcome to the fifth and final installment of Advent with Allison. Today, we’re having a casual conversation about hearing from God, feeling restless and unsettled during the holiday season, and why we need to stop pursuing happiness and “self-love” as the highest good in our lives.
(Also, a quick correction on my John 16 commentary – I stated this was before Jesus’s ascension, but it was before his arrest and crucifixion. I’ve included a resource below regarding this chapter. Sorry about that!)

Welcome back to Advent with Allison, a five-part series where we anticipate the annual commemoration of Jesus’s birth. This episode is part four, covering the perfect forgiveness that Jesus modeled in his birth, life, death, and resurrection. Our almighty God extends salvation, freedom from sin, and eternal security to those who accept it. Tune in to explore Jesus’s forgiveness made available to you and why Christ-followers must extend gracious forgiveness to others.
(A quick note of correction: When I talked about Jesus’s crucifixion around the 34-35 minute mark, I misspoke and used the phrase “tie up” but we know Jesus had nails driven into his hands or wrists from John 20:24-27. Sorry for any confusion!)

Wednesday Nov 30, 2022

Before we get much further in our Advent series, we encourage you to slow down and live with more intention. The holiday season’s tendency to be all “hustle-and-bustle” can be an insidious distraction from God’s presence in our lives. God commands your awareness of him, observation of his handiwork, and participation in his Kingdom work. In this episode, Allison explains the necessity of solitude with God and provides tips on seeking God’s presence daily. We all do this imperfectly, so it’s not about striving for perfection! It’s about looking for God with an honest heart and open mind.

Episode 26 | True Gratitude

Sunday Nov 20, 2022

Sunday Nov 20, 2022

Happy Thanksgiving! Gratitude practices are often shallow and surface-level. People will say, “Keep a gratitude journal!” where you are meant to write down a list of all your circumstantially “good” things. The problem with this gratitude approach is that circumstances outside your control define it. Thus, gratitude ebbs and flows with how you feel each passing moment. How can we maintain thankfulness and joy amid hard times? Tune in to find out!
